Evaluation

Having to re-submit this project meant that I had to fully re-evaluate my way of carrying out a project and decided to stick with what I had already intended to create, but refining some areas. I felt I carried out my contextual research well as I had a real understanding of the era, how to style a character from that era, and how to be successful with it. The research into the dangerous methods undertaken by Elizabethan woman to achieve that pale complexion helped me to analyse the visual difference between Elizabethan woman and recreations of them.

The area I would say I struggled the most would be the make-up and hair charts as the complexion is white, the charts can sometimes look bare and simple. Also I find elaborate hair styles extremely difficult to hand draw. I feel I was very limited with my make-up designs and could of been more creative. Another area of improvement could be my hair styling in the final images as tools were limited, I tried to use the hair styling to modernise the look whilst keeping the make-up traditional, however I don’t think this was conveyed as I had hoped. I feel my actual make-up application on my model was well-executed, however styling options were rushed and overlooked and are too modern for the shoot.

This is the digital mood board created for the aid of styling and hair and make-up options for my New Elizabethan character. As you can see, I've referenced both the original portrait of Queen Elizabeth, as well as the contemporary remake by Cate Blanchett. This will allow me to visualize a modern take on the classic look. The fabric patterns and dress designs are ones I would represent in my New Elizabethan portrayal.

Hair & Make-Up Charts

These were the hair & make-up charts created for my New Elizabethan character. I decided to use different face templates as the original make-up charts do not provide dimension to the face, and doesn't give way for you to add dimension to the face. The Elizabethan make-up process is fairly simple in comparison to those of other era's, and I find it quite difficult to portray into a make-up chart as the most dominant feature of this look is the pale white complexion, already provided from the paper 

The second make-up chart will be the look I shall be following in order to create my New Elizabethan.
